Children will be chuffed to meet Santa next month, as he takes the train from Melksham to Swindon.

He will be on the 5.30pm train on December 8, and will be presenting gifts and mince pies to all the children who join him.

Tickets are available from Melksham^s Tourist Information Centre for ^8 for adults, and ^4 for children, in aid of the Melksham Railway Development Group which works to improve facilities and services in the town.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

With the arrival of a more frequent service with Santa, we've had a question mark on the train length form the 17:31 on 8th December, and until a couple of weeks ago we were limiting Santa to a 153 load of passengers.  However, the diagram for the 17:30 is a 150 and we've been able to step up the seats.

This Wiltshire Times article has brought ticket sales up to "nearly all sold" on the 150 (I spoke to the Tourist Information yesterday), with others hearing about the trip through Facebook, Twitter, a single sentence in the Melksham Independent News, the Bowerhill Villager, and posters at the TIC▸ (Tourist Information Centre).   There's a change the train will be 3 carriages - I hope to hear in the next 36 hours in which case we have a handful of days to sell more tickets prior to Santa having to set the elfish production line running on Friday 22nd.
