I currently have a weekly season ticket between Reading and London Zones 3-6 on Friday I need to go from Reading to Paddington (eventually ending up at St.Pancras) using FGW (First Great Western) rather than Reading to Ealing Broadway and wondered if there was somehow a way to pay for this excess fare. Buying a ticket for EBW to Padd is much more expensive than using an oyster but I wont have the chance to jump off the train and touch my oyster.

Any advice would be warmly received.

I think it will have to be the ^4.00 single from Ealing Broadway (incidentally EAL (Ealing Broadway Station), not EBW) to Paddington.

There is a benefit in buying this fare. Used in combination with your Reading to Zones 3-6 weekly season you can travel on a through train from Reading to Paddington thanks to National Rail Conditions of Carriage condition 19(c):

Quote
19. Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire journey and one of the following applies

 (a) they are both Zonal Tickets unless special conditions prohibit their use in this way. The Ticket Seller will, if you ask, advise you whether you can use a Zonal Ticket in combination with another ticket.

 (b) the train you are in calls at a station where you change from one ticket to another;

 or

 (c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/ are not.

But carry this with you - there are TMs(resolve) on FGW (First Great Western) HSTs (High Speed Train) (yes, I'm looking at *you*, Chris - why were you hiding your name badge?) who don't know this rule c)....he's been reported for further training.....

How about a ZONE U123* LONDN - West Hampstead Thameslink or Kentish Town at ^4.50 Single?

This would allow travel to London St Pancras on the Underground and can be used from your season.

Return wise, you could purchase a Zone 123 Travelcard and use this in conjunction with your Season for Zones 3456 for travel to STP. Or buy the above ticket as a Return for ^9.00

Carry that extract from the NRCoC (National Rail Conditions of Carriage) with you however. It's not unheard of that staff do not know about the split ticket rules with Seasons. In this case this is I believe what this rule was introduced for Wink

That wouldn't be valid on a FGW (First Great Western) service (LU only) as Ealing Broadway to Paddington is not an inter-available route.

Would a London Zones 1-2 Anytime Day Travelcard @ ^8.80 not cover the whole lot?

Interesting... brfares.com lists that ticket as route: ANY PERMITTED - http://www.brfares.com/#!fares?orig=0791&dest=WHP

I don't doubt you at all Brucey (going to sound a right hypocrite now) but is there a specific reason why ZONE U123* LONDN cannot be used on FGW? I ask this as I often use the similar ZONE U1256* LONDN Origin on GreaterAnglia and c2c Services and would hate to think it wasn't valid; as I wouldn't use those tickets for National Rail Services any more!
