You ended up with a Weekend First Upgrade! On a Friday!

I can see that is clearly wrong. But I have to agree with John R. A passenger with little fare knowledge would have bought that ticket in good faith and been rather appalled it was in fact wrong.

I am reminded of my c2c issue where I was issued with a Super Off Peak Travelcard by a SWT (South West Trains) Guard. This was issued on a Friday as is the case here. The Super Off Peak Travelcard is only valid on weekends and bank holidays. Same as FGW (First Great Western) Weekend First. Yet an RPI (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context)) caught me out with it and I paid the Excess.

However even with my better than average understanding of tickets. I feel in that trap. So actually, Avantix (Ticket Issuing System used on board trains) can issue tickets on days where they are not valid. That's seriously worrying!

The Super Off Peak Travelcard is only valid on weekends and bank holidays.

Only up to a point though, it's dependent on the origin.

Super Offpeak travelcards are definitely valid any day of the week on SWT (South West Trains)'s services, but on weekdays they only become available based on the arrival time at Waterloo (usually the first train arriving after 1200).  So a Super Offpeak travelcard issued from an SWT origin would also be valid on c2c's services within the zones surely?

If you were buying such a fare from SWT but with an origin in c2c's area outside the zones, then it's easy to see how a problem might arise...

As always expected, Super Offpeak causes problems because it means different things in different areas...

I just checked for a day return from Winchester to Basildon for tomorrow, and as I expected there's a Super Offpeak fare available on the 1056 departure.  So from what you are saying that could cause grief from c2c staff?

Hi Paul, the thread I made was in frequent posters. I'll link it when I have access to a PC (Galaxy S4 at the moment)

I purchased a Super Off Peak Travelcard from a SWT (South West Trains) Guard for Chalkwell - Zones 1-6. This was on a Friday where the tickets were not valid. I offered to pay and was excessed to an Off Peak as the RPI (Revenue Protection Inspector (or Retail Price Index, depending on the context)) was more than happy it was the guard not knowing the validity than me trying to "chance it" As alot of staff have said to me in the past. At least I have some form of ticket whereas many don't... Lips sealed
