I am told that much of the approaches to Bath from the eastern side into the centre have been at a standstill, and are now slow moving at best. Not sure exactly what happened, but sand is being put down on the approach to Cleveland Bridge (at the heart of an issue so beloved of those with an interest in transport planning) which could indicate some sort of fuel spillage.

Certainly my contact spent an hour sitting on a bus that was going nowhere, before deciding to walk into Bath instead.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
