From the British Transport Police press release:

Quote
Do you know these men? Police appeal for information after incident on train - Cardiff

British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) officers are appealing for the public^s help to identify two men they wish to speak to in relation to an incident on board a train between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street rail stations.

Officers have today released CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) images of the men who they believe will have information which can assist the investigation into the incident which took place on Saturday, 20 April 2013.

PC Alun Derrick, investigating officer, said: ^A 23-year-old man from Heath was the victim of an assault on board a train as it travelled between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street stations at about 9.30pm on Saturday, 20 April. He suffered a cut above his left eye and bruising to his face. His attackers left the train at Cardiff Queen Street but fled when confronted by security staff.

^Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and, today, I am releasing CCTV images of two men I^d like to identify and speak to as I believe they will have key information which can assist the inquiry. If you know their identity or whereabouts, please call BTP straight away.^

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111. In all calls, please quote incident reference B4/WWA of 17/05/2013.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Why do the police have to wait for so long before announcing these appeals.  The longer the delay, the more chance any potential witnesses are likely to forget.

BTP (British Transport Police) said on their Twitter feed that the delay in this appeal was due to Southern taking a while to recover the CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) from the train.

That wouldn't be a surprise given the TOC (Train Operating Company) involved was ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC)).

When did Southern move to Cardiff?

Sorry folks - I had this incident muddled up with one in that happened in South London.

However, I wonder if a similar delay with ATW (Arriva Trains Wales (former TOC (Train Operating Company))) to provide the CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele Vision) to BTP (British Transport Police) might have been the reason for the slow release?
