hi there
i note there are significant alterations Mon-Thurs services 15/4 onwards on the that line plus any Reading knock-on problems still possibly hanging around.....

am due to travel 16 April 0545 Dorchester West to CC which arrives 0633
then the timetabled connection with 0638 HST (High Speed Train) CC to Paddington which arrv's 0838 (this train normally starts at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains) but will start at CC because of the line closure)

and then i catch the re-timed Cornish Riviera (was 1006) at 0930 now via Bristol!

i have to do it this way to join a friend in London and the line closure problems....

is this all do-able please?  Ta

It is certainly do-able - the connection at Castle Cary is advertised.

If for any reason you miss it you could probably still get to Reading by 09:57 and pick up the 09:30 from Paddington if your friend can get on it and meet you at Reading.

All in a good cause. There have been long running temporary speed restrictions through Somerton Tunnel (80 mph up Athelney, 70 mph down Athelney) due to condition of track / poor riding and it looks like they are going to completely relay both lines through the tunnel.

The HOBC (High Output Ballast Cleaner) / TRT cannot work in tunnels or confined spaces due to each wagon having its own engine to drive the belts etc so more traditional methods (shovels, teaspoons and staplers) have to be used.

Reading seems to be working normally (at least as well as it normally does) so there shouldn't be any problems on that account....

Unfortunately one of the special "fill-in" trains from Castle Cary has been cancelled.

Quote
09:42 Castle Cary to London Paddington due 11:24
This train will be cancelled.
This is due to a train fault.
