Bearing in mind Graham's trip to Scotland last year could it possibly be on the re-opened Stirling - Alloa line? Perhaps just outside Stirling as there seems to be a river in the background.

It certainly looks like new track so could well be Alloa then there's the dictionary clue, but the Forth is still much wider than the river in the picture

What dictionary clue?  I got the Corby bit as indicating we are talking a 'Glen' here ().

I thought of one of the recently preserved Scottish lines rather than a re-opened one.  So I'll see if that triggers any thoughts, er, none here as you gather.

Yes, it's Alloa.   The big area isn't a river - rather a piece of flooded or very wet grassland; that whole area is the site that was the old Alloa station, and the bridge was over the station in days gone by.  In the foreground is the pointwork where the line from Stirling, coming in from the left branches to the new station (front) and the line to shortseagull power station in the back.

I took it as refering to being near dictionary wise to your guess of Annersley.

That's how I meant it - Annersley is only 0.3% further down the alphabet that Alloa.

All too clever for me, but congrats on Alloa, whoever got it.  At least I got the right country!

It was on the Midland, GN and  GC^» (Great Central Railway - link to heritage line), South of the hills at the top of Leen vlley North of Nottingham.

The GC's London Extension  proper started there having shared a tunnel through the hills with GN the Midalnd having it's own tunnel. It was also the home to Annersley yard and shed from which the famous Windcutters (or out and homes) trundled coal down to Woodford Halse and empties back in one shift.

The Midland line has now reopened as the Robin hood line from Nottingham to Mansfield and Worksop.

Annesley yard is covered in some flattened slag heaps.

As I say the railway geography of the Leen Valley and the Nottinghamshire coalfield is very complicated. They were still building colliery branches in the 60s.
