Shot in the dark number 7: Westbury Platforms 2 & 3 Countrybound End

Sorry - no ...

2, 5 and 7 remain unanswered ... and none of these three is all that near to home.   Remember that at times I get around a bit  Grin - but they are all UK (United Kingdom).

Hmm.  Roll Eyes

2. has a vaguely Welsh branch line atmosphere about it: may I be permitted to hazard a guess at 'somewhere on either the Forest of Dean Railway or the Talyllyn Railway', as a rather desperate couple of stabs in the dark?  Embarrassed

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

I thing someone may be able to gauge which of those two is the correct one  Grin ... Noting your .sig, CfN, I was standing on one at the time ... but it was gated with those old fashioned swing things with a chappy (or chapess) swinging it.

I can gauge which is the correct one grahame. Am I allowed another go? Mind you, by saying I know which of CfN's two possibles is correct might be enough of a clue for Chris. I can however give the precise location.  Wink

2. To add to CfN's guess of Dean Forest Railway, I concur. It's the level crossing on on the B4234 at Whitecroft, adjacent to the recently re-opened Whitecroft Station.

I expect no. 3 to be the last to go!

No. 3 has already been answered.  Huh

5.

7.

I'm surprised these two haven't gone (or rather - I'm surprised that the second one hasn't gone).  It has a handful of direct services each day starting from Bristol Temple Meads and really isn't far from home.

Number 5 is going to be harder, I know - that's a long way from home, and most of our members who travelled in their youth won't have had the opportunity to go there.

I don't think I would go for "daft", but you've read the clues well so there are similarities between Corby and the actual location.

A very wild punt on 5. Kirby South Junction on the Robin Hood line where it becomes double track after passing through Annersley (Midland) tunnel?

If it is then the history of the railways in this area is too complex to post. Suffice to say this Kirby South Junction is roughly where the GC» (Great Central Railway - link to heritage line) junction of the same name was situated but is at leat 30' higher as the GC was in a deep cutting. We are basically back to just the Midland lines with no trace of the GC at all.

I'm afraid it isn't ... but it's so refreshing to see reminders of re-openings (most of which have been a huge success) coming up in the suggestions.
