The bottom one hasnt even updated its photo file name from london-overground-train-1339155601-article-0

and the owner of the photo is....TFL▸ (Transport for London) http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/images/landscape/rail-vision-web.jpg

Maybe today's 'wet behind the ears' journalists think 'overground' is synonymous with mainline railways.  So they just search for overground for their pictures? 

In some more London-centric forums you do seem to get this ambivalent use of the term, eg 'overground into Waterloo etc'...

Stretching a point I suppose the LOREL train could just about be described as relevant for Peterboroughand Cambridge as it shows a train which goes to the south of London. However, Thameslink would be more appropriate,

It may not have been a relevant photo, but it is quite interesting. That particular version of the Barbie livery with the white outline on the second stripe wasn't applied to may powercars.

Indeed: I've noticed an annoying tendency in some local journalism for a reporter to publish a 'breaking news' item, illustrated with any old stock picture, pending their getting more details and a relevant picture.

Why don't they just publish the basic facts as they arrive in the press room, and explain "Further details and pictures to follow"  Huh

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.
