But there is an electric railway ... The most relaxing way to enjoy this majestic panorama is to travel by train on the longest funicular electric cliff railway in Britain, which has been transporting visitors to the summit since opening in 1896. I nearly said Network Rail track as I thought there might be a 'private' railway somewhere using electric traction, but couldn't think of any. |

From the West Briton: Broken down train disrupts rail service between Falmouth and Truro First Great WesternRail services between Falmouth and Truro have been disrupted this morning due to a train breaking down on the line. The 8.20am and 8.50am services between Falmouth Docks and Truro have been cancelled. Stations affected include Falmouth Town, Penmere, Penryn, Perranwell and Truro. First Great Western says it cannot guarantee later trains will not be affected. Some passengers arriving at stations on the line have been told they will need to find alternative means of travel. The company advised commuters to check its website at journeycheck.com/firstgreatwestern for further updates. Those Class 180s are clearly unsuited to running along railway lines exposed to the sea air ...  |

From the Cornish Guardian: Broken down train disrupts rail service between Par and Newquay trainRail services between Par and Newquay have been disrupted this afternoon due to a train breaking down on the line. Train operator First Great Western said a number of its services have been suspended. Stations affected include Par, Luxulyan, Bugle, Roche, St Columb Road, Quintrell Downs and Newquay. First Great Western says it cannot guarantee later trains will not be affected, however replacement buses are being arranged. Such trains are quite clearly not suited to running on Cornish branch lines - surely they know that by now?  |

More to the point, they could run from Amersham to Watford Met today as the necessary curve is already there, it doesn't rely on the new Croxley Link really; but presumably no-one realises because they've either never been up early enough, or they've never been on the third side of the triangular route during periodic engineering work... I thought a couple of very early morning trains already ran direct to Watford from Amersham, and one or two back very late at night. Or have they gone? |

Sounds like they're sending you on the National Rail network and not using the underground. Just tried FGW▸ site. Watford High Street gives 2 hours; Watford Met gives 46 minutes. |

There are currently three passenger services that take the North Curve between Rickmansworth and Croxley. From Chesham to Watford at 0515^. (branch to branch!) From Rickmansworth to Watford at 0608. From Watford to Rickmansworth at 0049. There are also empty stock movements at various times of the day. Times from the Metropolitan Line Working Timetable: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/wtt-335-metropolitan-18-may-2014.pdfAt all other times of the day, to get from Watford Met to Rickmansworth and beyond (and vice versa) would require a change at Moor Park. |
