180114 has turned up on another Cornish Branchline. This time Falmouth First Great Western apologises for confusion over Truro to Falmouth line Trains between Truro and Falmouth are running once an hour following yesterday's lightning strike.
A replacement bus is in operation to supplement the train service, and valid rail tickets will be valid on the 88 between Falmouth and Truro.
Flooding has closed the Truro to Falmouth train line.
There was confusion this afternoon after First Great Western (FGW▸ ) announced the line was closed due to flooding.
But the company has since confirmed they made a mistake in communication and trains are running hourly.
At approximately 2pm FGW said on Twitter that the Truro to Falmouth line was closed and road transport was being put in place.
When the West Briton asked for an update an hour later the train company referred the newspaper to information about yesterday's lightning strike.
After repeated questions FGW eventually owned up to making a mistake. A spokesman said the tweet from FGW claiming the line between Falmouth and Truro was closed had been an error, it has since been deleted.
http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Flooding-closes-train-line-Truro-Falmouth/story-20415331-detail/story.html#axzz2pppw7MJ3I note the article refers to a replacement bus service. The only replacement bus was tickets being accepted on the service bus 88.

That particular picture was also used here - http://www.caravaningcamping.org/travel-advice/new-train-service-planned-from-london-to-amsterdam-477.php - and, to be fair, Melanie Adams, who apparently wrote the Southampton Echo story, is their Health Reporter.

... and a rousing 'Hurrah!' to the Exeter Express & Echo, for using yet again my favourite stock picture of a toast rack: Update: No trains between Exeter and Newton Abbot until Wednesday due to damage caused by weatherTrainlineThere are currently no trains Exeter St Davids to Newton Abbot because of poor weather. The delays will last until Wednesday 5 February due to major damage caused by the weather. That toast rack was obviously damaged by the weather.

From The MirrorFirst Capital Connect scored 17th out of 19 train companies in Which? survey and has now been granted extension Rowan Griffiths Back on track: First Capital Connect A train operator slated for passenger satisfaction this week was handed a six-month extension by the Government to run a contract yesterday. First Capital Connect will continue its franchise until September when a new Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise will start on the London, Bedford, Brighton and King^s Lynn services. A Which? survey this week placed FCC▸ 17th out of 19 train companies for passenger satisfaction. It also scored the equal lowest number of points for train cleanliness. RMT▸ union leader Bob Crow said the contract extension ^defies belief^. Starting in September, TSGN will be the largest franchise on the network and will take in the ^6.5billion Thameslink programme. Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: ^This contract is a major step towards boosting services for the 150,000 passengers who use these routes every day, as well as the national and regional economies.^ Yes pedants... I can see that Class 319 hiding in the background

Yay! From Torquay's Herald Express comes our old friend, the toast rack. (With an important message also) Warning not to trespass on flood-hit Devon railway tracksBritish Transport Police has issued a warning about trespassing on the flood-hit railway line in Devon. It comes after a photograph appeared on social media sites apparently showing cyclists using the tracks in the Powderham area while work continues by Network Rail to repair damage caused by severe weather earlier this month. At this stage, it is unclear when the photograph is alleged to have been taken ^ or indeed if the image is genuine and has not been photoshopped or altered in any way. Nevertheless, officers are taking the opportunity to remind the public that even though passenger train services are currently suspended as a result of the flood damage, it remains an offence to trespass on the railway line ^ and anyone caught doing so will be dealt with by BTP▸ . Sgt Dave Mannion, of BTP Exeter said: ^It is still is an offence to trespass on the railway line even though no passenger services are running on this stretch of line. ^There are still a huge range of dangers associated with the line ^ not least the fact that engineering trains are running and heavy machinery is being used by engineers repairing the line at the moment. ^As always, I urge people to stick to recognised paths and roads and resist the temptation to use the railway line as a shortcut or a playground while the repair works are ongoing. ^We have stepped up patrols in the area and anyone found trespassing on this stretch of line will be dealt with in the same manner as when trains are running normally. ^Remember: it is an offence to trespass on the railway and if you do so, you will be caught and dealt with.^ Sgt Mannion added: ^I am also appealing to parents and adults to take responsibility and emphasise the dangers to your children, and if you live near the railway, ask yourself if you know where your children are playing? ^This is not about stopping people having fun ^ it is about keeping them safe from harm. ^We will continue to work closely with colleagues from Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and Network Rail to monitor the rail lines in the affected area. ^My message is simple - stay safe, stay off the tracks and stay out of trouble.^

From the Weston Mercury: Extra London trains announced
First Great Western is making timetable changes in May to increase the number of train services between Weston and London.
Exact times have not been announced but the changes will mean more high-speed trains will run between the two on Sundays during the peak season.
And the particular picture the Weston Mercury chose, to illustrate their story?

From The Argus: Commuter chaos with delays up to an hour as railway signalling failsSignalling between Three Bridges and Gatwick failed due to a power cutCommuters are facing delays of up to one hour this morning as railway signalling has failed. An electrical power failure earlier this morning between Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport has had knock on effects for all major services. Southern, Gatwick Express, First Great Western and First Capital Connect are all reporting disruption to their trains. The routes are now open - but delays are expected as services clear the backlog. ... and while the tracks are returned to their normal dimensions, one assumes?
