Was wondering the same myself. FGW (First Great Western)'s site says "emergency engineering works", without further explanation. Twitter is silent on the matter, although there are also problems at Herefrod.

I believe the issue is still the same ongoing from yesterday. There was a wire or cable hanging from a signal gantry in the West Drayton area. Network Rail have closed the down relief and up main lines, originally to inspect, but now presumably to fix the problem.

Indeed - there's a bit more detail now on FGW (First Great Western) JourneyCheck:

Quote
Line problem: between London Paddington and Slough

Owing to emergency engineering works between London Paddington and Slough some lines are closed.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 mins at short notice. Disruption is expected until 16:00 03/11.

Two out of the four running lines in the West Drayton area are closed as a result of this emergency engineering work.

In order to provide a service with the least disruption for our customers it has proved necessary to reduce the number of train movements through the affected area which may result in extended journey times.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Today there was also some trespassing.

Earlier issues between RDG(resolve)/PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) all on 2Nov.
Blacked out signals due to cut cable
Object hanging from OHLE
Broken rail
Points failure

From the Uxbridge Gazette

Rail delays caused by checks at West Drayton station

Nov 2 2012 By Jack Griffith

SAFETY checks at West Drayton railway station are causing delays on train services between London Paddington and Heathrow.

Service alterations and delays, of up to 45 minutes, are expected to continue until 3pm today (Friday).

Heathrow Connect services are suspended, while Heathrow Express are running every half an hour from Paddington.

Passengers can use South West trains with their current tickets on any reasonable route.

http://www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/west-london-news/local-uxbridge-news/2012/11/02/rail-delays-caused-by-checks-at-west-drayton-station-113046-32153187/

If that report is accurate then it suggests the problem was at or near Airport Junction.
