Apparently there were lots of very unhappy people on Saturday afternoon/evening when the Avocet (Branch line from Exeter to Exmouth) Line service seemingly failed to cope with a, not unexpected, higher than usual number of customers:

Although FGW (First Great Western) may not have covered themselves in glory, some of the comments are pretty ridiculous.

FGW (First Great Western) could only have covered themselves in glory if they had more trains available to them.

first are normally very very good at providing road transport to assist with volumes for the rugby, i would be surprised if they didn't provide any this time, i wonder how many of these people actually turned up with enough time to purchase tickets, as for the station being closed i wonder how many of the regular users buy tickets online or walk straight upto that self serve machine  then are surprised when the ticket office is closed  Roll Eyes

Normally I would agree with the shortage of units argument however, on a saturday evening there are plenty of spare units in the Exeter area!
