The invariably late 7:17 AM "commuter" train from Melksham to Swindon sank to new levels today - it didn't leave Melksham until just before 8. How difficult can it be to get a carriage or two from Westbury, where it starts, a few miles along the line to Melksham?
Hi, Ptolemy, and welcome to the board. As Jim says, this morning it was due to the "late running of a previous service" which always strikes me as missing out the root cause. That earlier service was only 1 car where it should have been 2, and I suspect that the train to form it had failed at Gloucester and they had had to rush an empty one up from Bristol ...
That is just this morning's "sample answer" .... the other day there was chaos all around because of a "fatality" at Box, with diversions up and down the TransWilts ... last Saturday the 09:22 was quarter of an hour late because of (I understand) a failure to roster a crew to get it to the platform at Westbury ...
At times, I fell the system is so near-the-limit that every journey is eventful; a typical journey up to East Anglia a month ago ... problems on the trains from Chippenham to Paddington and back (fat chance of an appropriately timed TransWilts train as I wanted to travel at a popular time!) but a perfect journey - also with First - from King's Cross to Ely.
