From FGW (First Great Western) JourneyCheck:

Quote
Line problem: between Taunton and Exeter St Da...

Owing to safety checks being made between Taunton and Exeter St Davids all lines are blocked.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 mins at short notice. An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed.

Owing to a reported gas leak adjacent to the railway line train services are unable to operate between Taunton and Exeter St Davids in either direction until safety checks have been carried out.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Rumour on a Taunton facebook thread reports that the builders on the Old Cider works site next to the railway in Norton Fitzwarren have cut or dug through a gas main, again. They did this a couple of years ago and it was chaos then.
