More Ticket Machines for Bristol Temple Meads

First Great Western is to install additional ticket vending machines at Bristol Temple Meads as part of our on-going programme of improvement works.
 
The self-service ticket vending machines (TVMs^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine)) will help to speed up the process of buying a ticket as well as allow customers to collect pre-booked travel tickets.
 
This will take the total value of improvement works at Bristol Temple Meads to over ^500,000 thanks to the National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP) scheme. Previous work has included the renovation of station toilet facilities as well as works to improve the retail aspect of the station.
 
The ticket vending machines are to be installed on the Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 September.

NSIP is a Department for Transport backed programme, supported by Network Rail, to deliver improvements to medium sized stations in England and Wales.

This is much welcomed news, although I do wonder where they will be located, without losing any windows or the travel centre?

Removing some of that bank of underused payphones may be be a good location.

From my personal observation, walking through BRI^» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) this lunchtime:

Three new Scheidt & Bachmann ticket vending machines have been installed side-by-side just outside the side entrance to the station on the old Brunel platform - the one facing the long stay car park, towards Wetherspoons.

There were four S&B engineers working on them - well, to be accurate, there was one engineer working on one machine, with three other engineers watching him ...

Seems an okay location, as long as there will be clear signage directing folk to these additional machines from the main booking hall area. Handy also for folk arriving from the Temple Quay area.

Shame they had to be Scheidt & Bachmann though and not the latest iteration of SHERE Fast^. I won't be collecting my redspottedhanky purchased tickets from a S&B machine. They have problems dealing with multiple purchases on one 'Ticket on Departure' collection code.

SO, you are queued up at the old machines for ages, miss your train , and see the signs to the new machines and think ..'Oh Scheidt!'.....

Thanks for the photos bignosemac.  It is a shame the sign does not have an arrow pointing to the location, as many travellers will not know where the "Temple Quay Entrance" is located.

You know what Brucey, I thought exactly the same!

I asked a member of the ticket office staff about this and was told that more permanent signage is on order, which will point folk in the right direction.

Apologies if the images are a little large, I'm away from home and don't have all my usual tools to hand.

Makes me laugh every time I see this sort of thing, even when it's in hospitals. Someone spends hundreds of pounds on impressive new signage, then someone else has to run off a separate note on his PC, and stick it on with sellotape (or sticking plaster, in hospitals).

I still like the idea of keeping at least one TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine) hidden, for forum members' use only.

This is somewhat related to the topic in "Bristol Commuters" as it is a picture of one of the new TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine)'s at the Temple Quay Side Entrance. (Mods feel free to merge if it's better there)

But there is always an "odd-ball"...............



At first I thought this was a machine that sold Severn Beach Line Tickets. But after a while, I thought that was a stupid idea. Curiosity overpowered me anyway and I poked the screen and it appears to sell the full range of tickets and a more compact design. All the other machines (Bar the ones in the main ticket hall) are of the "Blue" variety. <-- I know that's not there technical name. But after spending the past hour and 20 minutes on Rail Replacement Bustitution^▸ (the practice of replacing trains with buses) and having to leave for London at 6AM I don't care

I did wonder about that odd one out. It looks like whoever was doing the carpentry wasn't expecting the smaller TVM^▸ (Ticket Vending Machine). You can see that the wood paneling was fitted in anticipation of a full size machine.
