A busy Berkshire station could get an extra MILLION commuters each year once Crossrail opens, Network Rail has said. Maidenhead station currently has three million passengers a year but the firm said this was likely to rise. It said Crossrail's 10-coach trains would be much longer than current trains and carry 1,500 people. The ^16bn rail link scheme is due to open in 2018 and will link Maidenhead with Essex, passing through London. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-19517436?

889 more working days until I go, probably no more than 750 more times through the door after leave and whatever bunking off I can get away with. And I'm not doing any work for the last 12 months, either.
Where are these new passengers going to arrive from? Jupiter? How do they get to Maidenhead now? It has its charms, but it's hardly the Jewel of the Occident, so they can't be tourists.

The commuters will live in millions of new homes. According to the government, the green belt is set to be bulldozed for more roads, homes and industries. Planning laws are to be relaxed so people can add large extension to houses, concreting over gardens and green space.

Source? It's a known fact they want to in Maidenhead, I haven't however seen anything that says its been approved or will happen. There is even a NAG for this.

Maidenhead is the Jewel of the Thames It's the catchment area, folks might be willing to drive from as far as Bracknell to take advantage of the speed of the connectivity Crossrail will provided to the city compared with the snail pace of the SW lines and then the flakiness of The Drain, also folks my decide to drive into Maidenhead instead of Twyford because of Crossrail, and as always there is huge pressure on Maidenhead for more housing because of its already good rail and motorway links and proximity to Heathrow and London

The commuters will live in millions of new homes.
Maidenhead currently has around 56,000 households. "Millions", ie at least 2 million, would involve enlarging Maidenhead to at least 35 times its current size. I bet no-one saw that coming, but think of the council tax! Less of the hyperbole, please Btline. I've told you thousands of times.

You're not alone. I've requested the same gazillions of times. Lest we not forget. Maidenhead's footfall is 3.6 million. That's not 3.6 million individuals using the station.

Maidenhead's footfall is 3.6 million.
Does that assume every passenger has two feet? I'll get my anorak.

From the Cambridge Dictionary online:- "specialized the number of people who go into a shop or business in a particular period of time Footfall is an important indicator of how successful a company's advertising is at bringing people into its shops."So exactly what is it? Passengers - trainspotters?
