Chiltern Railways is owned by Deutsche Bahn AG and is part of Arriva. Since winning the franchise in 1996, Chiltern Railways has run scheduled passenger services along the M40 corridor between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone to Aylesbury via Amersham along the London Underground Metropolitan line. In 2002 they extended their operations as far as Kidderminster and in 2004 they took over services between Stratford-upon-Avon and London.

This board is provided for all customers of Chiltern Railways.  Industry experts are very welcome to contribute; very often things happen and decisions are made that perplex the traveller, and a quick question / few words of explanation can rapidly bring forth an answer which explains why.

The new board here has been set up with a few of the existing topics on the subject of Chiltern being moved here from the original FGW (First Great Western) boards.  Feedback from our many readers tells us that they have learned a great deal from reading posts and threads about neighbouring operators, so we've now added several new boards for neighbouring lines.  In time, we may need to change the main board from "FIRST Great Western", and indeed run under a more generic name.  However, it should be stressed that these boards are run and hosted by a rail customer, for other rail customers and are totally independent of any of the companies concerned.

We have a number of rules and guidelines right across the Coffee Shop forum - you can read the introduction here, and we welcome signups from anyone who would like to ask questions on, or discuss, anything relating to Chiltern Railways, in line with those guidelines.  Initially, you may find that the board starts quiet - and that means that you can be a great help in contributing.  Thank you, and welcome!

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Do you have something you would like to add to this thread, or would you like to raise a new question at the Coffee Shop? Please [register] (it is free) if you have not done so before, or login (at the top of this page) if you already have an account - we would love to read what you have to say!

You can find out more about how this forum works [here] - that will link you to a copy of the forum agreement that you can read before you join, and tell you very much more about how we operate. We are an independent forum, provided and run by customers of Great Western Railway, for customers of Great Western Railway and we welcome railway professionals as members too, in either a personal or official capacity. Views expressed in posts are not necessarily the views of the operators of the forum.

As well as posting messages onto existing threads, and starting new subjects, members can communicate with each other through personal messages if they wish. And once members have made a certain number of posts, they will automatically be admitted to the "frequent posters club", where subjects not-for-public-domain are discussed; anything from the occasional rant to meetups we may be having ...
