In steam days there was a splendid range of names. The LMS (London Midland Scottish - 1923 to 1948) Jubilees covered many diverse topics http://www.jubilees.co.uk/details/ and there's a name for most :-

Perhaps
45720 Indomitable for BMN
45709 Implacable for Grahame
45710 Irresistible for me  Wink
45727 Inflexible for Mrs Andy W  Roll Eyes

I also like the sound of Luckie Mucklebackit and Baillie McWheeble from North of the Border

I don't know Mrs W, but there's definitely one member of this forum for whom the name 'Inflexible' would be appropriate..... Lips sealed

Er.. "Gordon the Blue Engine".   See..

But Wikipedia has a small error.  I was built at Swindon and always worked on the GWR (Great Western Railway). I've never been north of Potters Bar.

Just revisiting this thread. Whilst I'm happy with my initial selection of the Warship 'Strongbow' for the tenuous link to my love for potent apple juice, I can't help but wonder whether any loco was ever named 'Pedantic'?  Grin
