The vital development of the grossly overcrowded new Street station has been put back almost a year by network rail.
The 1st phase is now not due to be opened until April 2013. It was initially meant to be ready for the Olympics.

I wonder what the delay is? Bad news for commuters.

That's the Olympics^ in London right? Could we have some citation or link to back up the claim that the 1st phase was due for completion this summer.

The BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) website, reporting on the start of work back in 2009 September (at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/8231000.stm) says that

Quote
In the project's first stage, workers will build a new concourse next to the station in what is currently the NCP Pallasades lower-level car park.

Network Rail has said passengers will not be affected by the work.

The new concourse, expected to be more than three times bigger than the present one and enclosed by a light-filled atrium, is expected to open in 2012.

The old concourse will be redeveloped during the second phase of work.

Yes, London 2012.
Obviously not, as Network Rail have updated the page! However, I assure you the 1st phase was due in Summer 2012. Then pushed back to late 2012, now mid 2013.

The estimated completion date for New Street has now slipped back to Summer 2015 (which probably means September) instead of Early 2015.

Old date still visible here: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/improvements/indexpage.aspx
New date: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/6239.aspx

I expect that will slip back to December 2015 and when it is finished in November, it will be delivered "on time". Roll Eyes
