From 20 May 2012, the area covered by the Heart of Wessex Day Ranger is to be extended to include the Severn Beach line, Pilning, Yate and Pewsey.  It will also cover the section from Pilning/Bristol Parkway to Swindon. This will then match the map which has been displayed on the National Rail website, and has been referred to in a previous post.

I understand the fare is also to be increased slightly.

Very interesting news, any idea on how much the price will increase by?

I have just noticed the map on the National Rail website has reverted back to the previous map which was corrected since when I last checked.

The map also shows Bedminster and Parson Street - is that included too?

I think the price of the non discounted fare is ^15.90 and ^10.50 with a railcard discount.

As for  Bedminster & Parson street being included I didnt see them on the map earlier although if they are I would assume so unless there has been a mistake.

I am glad the severn beach line is included on this rover as it offers  more value for money than the freedom travelpass now if only there was a better train service so I could  do the Melksham line again.

The Thames Branches Day Ranger is also being extended at its Western end to include Reading West, Tilehurst and Winnersh Triangle from 20th May with a small increase in price too.

In the current edition of Rail, Barry Doe gives the new price as ^17.50 and specifically lists Parson Street as one of the limits.

My understanding is that Parson Street has been included as it is convenient to the Bristol City football ground - it was certainly well used this afternoon by supporters.

Any stations further west (so, from Nailsea & Backwell onwards) really wouldn't count as being 'Heart of Wessex'.

Thanks for that although I think it does still offer good value for money especially if you travel to Swindon/Bristol with a cheap advance ticket.

The only down side is the poor train service between Swindon & Westbury.

Great news! No more split tickets for me coming off the Severn Beach Line to sunny Weymouth!

Just in time for the summer as well.  Grin
