Soon I will be relocating to Hinckley for 18 months and am permitted to claim back a return journey per week. As I am a non-driver I will be attempting to make this journey by train (to Slough) and will need to keep the train ticket as proof of purchase.

Unfortunately I am slightly worried that the ticket barrier machines will swallow my ticket up. Should I just advise the "Resource Protection Assistants" that I need to keep my ticket for proof of purchase/ travel purposes?

Why not just ask for a receipt when you buy the ticket?

Why not just ask for a receipt when you buy the ticket?

Because the receipt just shows the amount.

I'm self employed and whenever I have had my expenses queried (most years) the revenue always want to see the to and from stations to make sure they tie up with the location of my clients.

A train ticket remains the property of the railway at all times, the ticket barriers retain the tickets to prevent the possibillity of someone re-using the ticket, the only thing I can suggest is to photocopy your ticket?  Smiley

If you buy at a ticket office, ask for a receipt, it will clearly show the full details.

Do you get on at a station with barriers? If you don't you'll be able to keep one half of the return ticket.
