From the British Transport Police press release:

Do you recognise this man? Transport Police appeal for information after theft on board train ^ Exmouth to Teignmouth

British Transport police (BTP (British Transport Police)) officers investigating the theft of cash from on board a train between Exmouth and Teignmouth are appealing for the public^s help to trace this man.

Officers have today released a CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele-Vision) image of the man they believe will have information which can assist the investigation into the incident which took place on Saturday, 21 January 2012.

PC Justin Hamling, the investigating officer, said the incident took place on board the 1020hrs Exmouth - Paignton, via Exeter, service.

^The victim had dropped his railcard wallet holder which contained his railcard along with ^100 which was also inside as he got up from his seat to leave the train," PC Hamling said. ^After reporting it missing to rail staff, a member of rail staff found the man^s railcard but it was missing the cash which had been placed inside by the victim.

^Enquiries are ongoing to establish who had stolen the money from the railcard holder. After viewing CCTV images, I would now like to identify the man in this photograph as I believe he will have information which can assist police.^

The man police would like to speak to is described as white, with short brown receding hair and was wearing a dark-coloured leather jacket with a white shirt with a blue checked pattern underneath.

Anyone who recognises the men, or who knows their current whereabouts, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote log ref B5/WWA of 05/03/2012.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
