Police appeal after train conductor assaulted - Malvern Link, 5 January 2012

British Transport Police release images of man after train conductor assaulted ^ Malvern Link

Do you know this man? British Transport Police (BTP^▸ ) officers investigating an assault on a member of rail staff at Malvern Link railway station are appealing for the public^s help to identify this man.

Officers believe the man in these CCTV^▸ images will have information which can assist the investigation.

PC Carol Dade, investigating officer, said the incident took place at the railway station at around 9.50pm on Thursday, 5 January 2012.

^A man was seen sitting on platform 1 with his legs dangling over the edge of the platform,^ PC Dade explained. ^This led to the driver of the approaching 2059hrs Birmingham New Street ^ Hereford service being forced to apply the emergency brake to avoid striking the man^s legs.

^Staff on board the train refused to allow the man on board the train as a result of his behaviour. The man then became extremely aggressive towards the members of rail staff and punched the train conductor. Although uninjured, the conductor was left shaken by the man^s behaviour.^

PC Dade added: ^Placing your legs over the platform is an extremely dangerous and irresponsible thing to do and could have resulted in this man receiving serious injuries.

^His behaviour towards the members of staff was also completely unacceptable ^ aggression or violence towards rail staff will not be tolerated by BTP and the rail industry, and we will do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.

^After reviewing CCTV, I would now ask anyone who recognises this man to contact BTP with the information as I believe he will be able to help us with our enquiries.^

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In all calls, please quote incident reference B8/WWA of 24/02/2012.
