Replacement road transport is being sourced to operate between Newton Abbot and Paignton in both directions.

14:30 Newton Abbot to Paignton due 14:49 This train will be cancelled. This is due to a broken down train.

15:30 Newton Abbot to Paignton due 15:49 This train will be cancelled. This is due to a broken down train.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Presumably the mainline to Exeter is closed, so the unit is stranded on the branch, meaning swapping it/rescueing is impossible!

Mainline is indeed closed and only the 3-car unit is running between Newton and Paignton.

Actually, I was 'rolling my eyes' in sympathy at the way that incident was developing: one broken down train was causing FGW▸ (First Great Western) so many problems in terms of other cancellations as a consequence.

On the other hand, TerminalJunkie's suggestion was funnier.  Tongue
