From the BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page):

Quote
A 35-year-old man has been arrested following a collision between a van and train at a level crossing near Carno, Powys.

He was arrested on suspicion of endangering safety without intent at Pikins Crossing on Thursday and has been bailed until 21 March.

No passengers were injured in the incident at 12:35 GMT, although the train driver was said to be shaken.

The van driver suffered chest and back injuries and was treated at the scene.

The white Ford Transit Connect van ended up on its roof in a ditch at the side of the railway track following the collision with the 10:09 Arriva Trains Wales Birmingham to Aberystwyth service.

The single track rail line runs through the single-track crossing between the villages of Carno and Llanbrynmair and is surrounded by fields and woodland.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "I can confirm that a 35-year-old man from Oswestry has been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety on the railway without intent.

"A BTP (British Transport Police) investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
