From the British Transport Police press release:

Do you know this man? British Transport Police appeal for information after train guard assaulted ^ Newton Abbot

British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) officers investigating an assault on a train guard at Newton Abbot railway station have today (Wednesday 15 February) released CCTV (Closed Circuit Tele-Vision) images of a man they would like to speak to about the incident.

BTP officers were called to Newton Abbot railway station on Monday 23 January, after a report that a member of rail staff on board a London Paddington ^ Paignton service had been assaulted.

Sgt Dave Mannion, of BTP, said the incident happened at about 1.15pm.

^The Revenue Protection Inspector on board the train encountered a male passenger who had boarded the train at Teignmouth at around 1.05pm but who did not have a valid ticket,^ Sgt Mannion said. ^The passenger refused to pay his fare and pushed the member of staff aggressively when the train reached Newton Abbot, before fleeing from the station on foot. Although uninjured, the member of staff was left shaken by the passenger^s use of force.

^BTP will not tolerate assaults of any kind towards railway staff and we will do everything possible to track down the offender and bring him to justice. But we need your help. If you know the identity of the man in these photographs, or his current whereabouts, please get in touch as we believe he will have information which can assist the investigation.^

Anyone who has information which could assist the investigation, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In all calls, please quote reference B6/WWA of 15/02/2012.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
