Hi,
I have a season ticket for between Reading and London.
This evening I need to head home via Guildford though. i.e. go from Waterloo to Guildford and then from Guildford to Reading.
So I'm wondering how much of this journey is covered by my season ticket - it says "Any Permitted" so is via Guildford allowed?
Thanks!
Boppy.
P.S. I've gone via this route before and asked on train and was told it was fine but I am not convinced as where is the limit to taking such diversions?

I'm afraid Guildford is not a valid route.
Your season is valid between Waterloo and Clapham Junction.

....and between Wokingham and Reading.
You therefore need tickets from Clapham Junction to Guildford, and Guildford to Wokingham.

Is it a travelcard zonal season? if so it's valid out to Boundary Zone 6 (after Surbiton)
You should be able to buy a Boundary Zone 6 to Guidford ticket at Waterloo and then a Guidford to Wokingham,
As I understand it you don't have to stop at the boundary as it's between stations.

Indeed. If the season is a Reading - Zones 1-x, then a ticket will only be needed from Boundary Zone x to Guildford. In addition to the ticket from Guildford - Wokingham of course. (where x is the number of the furthest zone to which the Travelcard season is valid)
With a Boundary Zone extension there is no requirement for a train you are on to call at the last station in that zone.

Probably academic now - but could you use the season for Waterloo to Wokingham and then get a return to Guildford. I appreciate timewise it would take longer - but how would it compare on price?

Thanks for the answer. In the end I had to rush off and so played it safe and got tickets covering all my journey (^17) but in the future I'll now know what I need.
I take it that it's safe to combine my two tickets to cover my entire journey or is it the same as a split ticket where technically I need to get off the train at Wokingham and at Clapham Junction?
Thanks!
Boppy.

There is absolutely no requirement to get off the train when using split tickets, the only requirement is that the train calls there (unless of course combining with season in whih case it doesn't matter)

And I believe any kind of leisure pass such as a Rover if I am correct?

... as long as said Rover is valid for:
(i) at least 7 consecutive days; or (ii) at least 3 days in a period of at least 7 consecutive days
