London Midlands: Extra seats on West Midlands trains
More than 2,300 extra seats a day are being made available on West Midlands trains in a battle against overcrowding.
London Midland said the increased capacity, from Sunday, would come from additional services and in some cases extra carriages.
The company runs services from Birmingham to stations across the West Midlands.
It follows a ^93m investment in new rolling stock announced in August.
London Midland replaced 150 of its 25-year-old fleet with 172 new trains, which entered service in the autumn.
Alex Hynes, from the company, said the changes would "go a considerable way to addressing overcrowding on several routes across the Midlands".
Walsall and Leamington services are due to see the greatest increases with more than 600 extra seats across the day.
The company said the Lichfield to Redditch line would see extra seats made available by increasing the number of trains across the day.
It added that some services between Lichfield and Redditch and from Shrewsbury to Birmingham would also see shorter journey times.

Nice,
Looks like someone misread Class 150 and Class 172 somewhere...
and assumed that was the number of trains replaced

Did all 150 of those old trains come south to

That really would've solved the capacity issues.

In fact the number of 172 carriages is 1 fewer than the no of 150s! And each carriage has ~10 fewer seats (albeit 2+2).
I wonder how the Snow Hill lines will get extra carriages then...
