A friend has asked me for advice for a Penryn Truro season ticket. Travelling every weekday between 31st Oct and 2nd December Does this price include return travel or just one way: STANDARD PERIOD Penryn Cornwall- Truro This ticket allows travel on any permitted route. view ^45.10 My friend needs to arrive in Truro before 0730am and leave after 1630, which would require a anytime return at ^3.60 a day, so the above season price is pretty much half the ^3.60 a day for the 25 days of return tickets he requires (^90 if bought daily) The large saving is why i am unsure if this includes both directions of travel, If anyone can recommend a better way of doing this even better!

a season ticket will include unlimited travel between the two stations (and intermediate stations) stated at any times for the duration of the ticket... the only exception is the ''part time'' season tickets that fgw now offers which you can pick 3 days during the week and also use at weekends so make sure its not one of those!
if he gets one he will need a photocard

And to add, a season ticket can be purchased for any length of time from 1 month to 1 year. So your friend can purchase a season lasting 1 month and 2 days to cover the period 31st October to 2nd December. EDIT: Aha. from the OP▸ I see that the correct price for 1 month 2 days was already quoted.

Thanks, it just seemed to good to be true saving pretty much 50% by buying for the 1 month and 2 days, and thought I may have gone wrong somewhere. ^45.10 vs ^90 bought daily for the required period. In fact that season works out considerably cheaper than petrol alone for driving. Shame there are no trains late enough for my work commute, or I'd seriously consider cutting me and my wife to one car and use the train, but i work 1600-0100 5 days a week.

Season tickets in Cornwall were reduced to 3 x the Standard Day Return fare in 2007 (I think) when the Devon & Cornwall Railcard took over from the Cornish Railcard.
The Cornish Railcard offered discounts on peak hour fares (encouraging commuters to buy daily tickets) whereas the D & C one of course only offers off peak discounts.

The fares in Devon and Cornwall are dirt cheap (some may say TOO cheap!) Just compare some train fares with the comparative bus fare and you'll see what I mean!

well the devon day rtns are capped at a tenner because of the ranger... factor in the devon and cornwall railcard and other offers like groupsave and you really need your head testing to go by car !

What is a "part time" season ticket? Looking at the FGW▸ web site I can find no mention of it or am I not looking in the correct spot? Is it something that can only be bought for Devon and Cornwall?. Here at Hanborough on the Cotswold Line we have many people who commute to London but not every day as they can work from home on some days. The normal season ticket cannot be justified financially and I often get asked if there is some form of season or multi-journey ticket purchase option that would give some saving on the standard any time fares. The only offer I can make is to suggest that they buy a Network card and purchase a peak hour single out and a Network single back if they can avoid the very peak hour evening return trains on which Network cards are not valid but for some this is also not viable.

Definitely good prices down here, ^45 to travel a 10-12 mile journey for 5 weeks is incredible value, especially when you factor in ^4-5 a day for all day car parking in truro! Within 7-8 days of travel you'll be cheaper than petrol and parking. Free car parking at Penryn station as well. Makes good sense as a park and ride for people of Falmouth, just a shame theres only about 10 spaces at Penryn Station!

AFAIK▸ there are no restrictions on using Network Cards in the evening peak. So for example an Anytime Day Single with network card would be valid on all trains in the evening peak.
