Take a look at the excellent Adlestrop map ...

http://www.systemeD.plus.com/New_Adlestrop_Railway_Atlas.pdf

Originally to Moretonhampstead ... latterly to Heathfield.  Also the back route to Exeter avoiding the sea wall.

Thanks for that link, Graham - an excellent .pdf map.  Shame it's a little out of date with reopenings, but very useful nonetheless.  Is there a version for the north and Scotland?

Is the moving map free? I've only had one brief look at a volo screen, and the only free thing I could find was a trailer/TV ad or something like that.

Yes of you select free, there is 5 sub categorys, one being maps, which contains the moving map, a static network map, a tube map, and a London tourist map. There is also news headlines, safety info, and couple others there. Although I'd say the volo is good value for money on a journey of more than a couple of hpurs 1.75 from the buffet with free set of ear phones. its 3 quid if you pay by sms and you don't get the headphones then

The only time I've travelled on the volo from PAdd to Slough i found teh mobing maps tended to time out and you had to reboot.

I think the 'free trial' of the moving map times out after a few minutes.

You could obviously move to another seat and start again there ...  Roll Eyes Shocked Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

Only to be tried in trains with empty seats and there are fewer of them around.  How about the 21:33 Weston-super-Mare to Bristol Temple Meads, or the 05:27 off Paddington early on its journey?  You would be ill advised to keep asking people to swap seats on the 18:06 off Paddington ... at least as far as Newbury.

The volo screens reset after each stop, so at least you can watch the acceleration from each station until the screen times out.

I understand there is some sort of plan to fettle all or part of it up and COLAS to operate timber traffic over it. Not sure of the details.
