Return more expensive than 2 singles

Am looking for tickets to travel to Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow - returning Saturday. I was thinking of setting off from Frome and splitting the tickets at Bristol Temple Meads.

I noticed that an Anytime Period return is ^12.55 (With Railcard Discount). However I then looked at the price of 2 singles. The cost of an Anytime Day Single is ^6.25 each way (Railcard). Totalling ^12.50!!

I can save a further 5p by purchasing an Off Peak Day Single on my return as I will be returning on a weekend (^6.20)

So all in all, Had I not have checked, I could have been 10p out of pocket. Not a major problem. But I do think that's wrong!! Sort it out FGW^▸ (First Great Western)!!

This issue is related to how the discount gets applied rather than the fare itself.

Yep. If the 34% railcard discount is applied without any rounding then the SDS works out as ^6.27 and the SOR works out as ^12.54

All fares are rounded to the nearest 5p so the SDS is rounded down to ^6.25 and the SOR is rounded up to ^12.55.

thetrout made a perfectly valid query. Yes, it's only 5p but I, in the same situation, would rather that 5p stayed in my pocket than give it to the TOC^▸ (Train Operating Company).
