From the Maidenhead Advertiser:

Quote
A lorry has crashed into the railway bridge in Marlow Road in Maidenhead causing heavy tailbacks.

The Mercedes vehicle is stuck under the bridge on the A308 and the road is closed.

Police are on the scene directing drivers and have advised motorists to find an alternative route or delay their journey.

Trains have also been stopped and a bus replacement service is running between Maidenhead and Marlow.

Network Rail have been called out to inspect the bridge for damage and it is anticipated the road will have to remained closed until this has been carried out and the lorry removed.

A police spokesman said they were called to the scene at 3.59pm and found a lorry from R McDowell Distribution jammed under the bridge, which has a clearance of 15 feet.

He added: "There's a lot of traffic and it's hard to say how long it will take. I anticipate heavy delays."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

The A404M is closed a lot at weekends as they are replacing the bridge over the railway line... a bit at a time... Causes good traffic hold ups in Maidenhead though  Smiley

Traffic chaos due to this bridge struck unrelated however what might be related are lorries using GPS to divert around the A404 (M) closures coming off of the M40 jcn 4 and turning onto the A308 at Bisham and going via Maidenhead town center and the A4  instead of the A404; apparently a number of times this week there have been a number of near misses at the bridge where lorries have stopped and had to reverse.

A mate of mine live very near to "Crawford Arch" on the "six cross roads" aka the Maidenhead - Bourne Line bridge over A308 Marlow Road / Gringer Hill went to his place on the way to the pub at 20:30 ish the offending  articulated lorry with its flat packed curtain trailer was hitched up to a recovery lorry;

Apart from scratched pain the bridge has made a full recovery however the lorry trailer terminal - Bridge 1 lorries 0
