Exit from the downside (trains from London) down slope and turn left. 5 mins walk.

My hometown!!! What do you plan to do Mookie with the time you have to kill? If you are wanting pub/eaterie recommendations then let me know.

As others have said the town centre is no more than a brisk 5-10 minute stroll form the station.

Yeah - have a meeting in the morning - at the station as my co meeter is coming up from Plymouth.  The tables outside the pumpkin is the likely location.  Have a wait from expected end of meeting until next hst to reading where I will go to office.

Lunch is on the menu so to speak - maybe somewhere that sells good cider as well - I anticipate the meeting will have been stressful ( lawyer)

One of the tables outside The Pumpkin on Platform 5 is usually occupied by some T**nt*n 'characters'. Nice enough blokes to chat to. The chap in the wheelchair is a permanent fixture and is a fount of knowledge when it comes to trains through Taunton.

If you are looking for good, proper, wesscundry cider then I'd highly recommend The Plough Inn on Station Road. Good pub grub as well. Out the main entrance from the London bound platform (5) turn left, under both bridges and about 200yds on the right. From the westbound platform (2) through the arch at the top of the stairs, down the slope to your right and under the bridge then on the right hand side across the road by the second set of lights.
