The assault led to partial closures at Preston Railway Station

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer who was stabbed at a railway station.

An officer was attacked on Saturday evening at Preston railway station in Lancashire, British Transport Police (BTP (British Transport Police)) said.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 53-year-old man from Preston has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article and is due to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court later.

The attack led to partial closures of the station as people were leaving the BBC Radio 2 in the Park music festival.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
