Just found this news story about the possibility of electrifying the cardiff valley lines:

 I am still trying to find the news article but when i read it last year it quoted the cost for electrifying the valley lines at clsoe to ^250 million.

I dont know how much it will cost for a fleet of new EMU (Electric Multiple Unit)'S or maybe some of the thameslink class 319's could be displaced if they are replaced by new stock

The Thameslink 319's were destined for the TV (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context) services out to Oxford and Newbury under the NR» (Network Rail - home page) GWML (Great Western Main Line) electrification scheme   Thameslink's second batch of new trains has been froxen pending the Governments spending review

As this topic has drifted towards Crossrail rather than Valleys electrification, I've split off the last few posts and merged them in with the Crossrail thread - you'll find the moved posts in Across the West here.
