Thieves in Telford take explosive detonators in Network Rail van (23/4/2010)

A van containing nine explosive detonators owned by Network Rail has been stolen from a Shropshire street.
An appeal has been issued by West Mercia Police for information about the vehicle, which was taken from Sunnymead, in Sutton Hill, Telford.
They said the Toyota Hilux van was parked in the street, and taken during Friday afternoon or evening.
The detonators are not dangerous in their current state, but should be handled with care and stored safely.
They are usually placed on railway lines to warn train drivers of possible obstructions ahead.
A police spokesman said: "There is no sign the thieves forced entry to the van and therefore we believe it was probably stolen using the keys that had been dropped by the van's driver."
Other items in the stolen vehicle included a small bottle of butane gas, power tools, a set of keys and a fuel card.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police in Telford.
