British Transport Police have launched an inquiry after a large boulder left deliberately on the rails damaged a sleeper train.

Police have launched an investigation after a sleeper train travelling between Glasgow and London was damaged by a large rock left deliberately on the track.
The locomotive of the Glasgow Central to London Euston service was hit by the boulder around 11.40pm on Thursday night.
The incident happened between Rannoch Drive and Smith Avenue in the Gowkthrapple area of Wishaw, North Lanarkshire.
The train limped into Carstairs station before a new locomotive was attached. The train then continued on its journey.
Detective Sergeant Grant Cathcart of British Transport Police, the officer in charge of the enquiry, said: "Fortunately, no one was injured and the train was able to complete its journey to London although, the consequences of such action could have been worse. I am appealing for anyone in the area who has information regarding the identity of those who may be responsible to contact me as a matter of urgency."
Scotrail - the train^s operator - could not confirm how many people were on the train, but in a statement added: "A police investigation is under way into the cause of this accident. The sleeper locomotive was switched and the service continued to its destination."

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
