If anyone still has one of these £5 off vouchers from the FGW (First Great Western) website, the "use-by" date has been extended to 31st July.

They lied - or I did ! Take your pick.

When I tried to use my voucher the "offer" page on the website had gone, I 'phoned FGW (First Great Western) to find out how to use my voucher and was told that the offer ended on Jun 30th.

Sorry FGW, I do NOT make things up nor hallucinate - your website DID (Didcot Parkway) say that the use by date had been extended to Jul 31st - wish I'd copied it now.   Angry Not impressed.

From http://www.fgw5pounds.co.uk/:

Offer expired
Sorry! The ^5 discount offer has now expired. Visit First Great Western website for other special offers

If you have registered for your discount PIN, you can use this on tickets purchased up to 31 July 2009. See terms and conditions for details

Although it does say at the top of the page Home>>Competition Closed.  If it was a competition does it mean if you didn't win they'll charge you an extra ^5?

Someone in FGW (First Great Western) needs a good kick up the Box Tunnel.

The day after the offer finished, this notice appeared on the "offer" website page.
A day or so later this notice disappeared and you ended up (using the offer page link) on a sort of ticketing/home page, with no mention of the offer.
When I rang to ask how to now use my voucher I was frimly told the offer ended on 30th Jun.
Now the extension date info has reappeared on the original offer page !!

Come on - FGW get sorted out.

Sorry, but you are missing my point. I didn't say your fix in your OP (Original Poster / topic starter, or Off Peak, depending on context) didn't work; haven't actually used it yet but it certainly gets me into the part of the site I needed to be in !

They put up the note saying the "use-by" date had been extended, removed it, then denied it had ever been there, then (apparently) put it back ! Even what is there at the moment doesn't tell you how to use your voucher code.
You either get sent to the special offers page (no good) OR you can go to the offer Ts & Cs page (which doesn't tell you how to proceed either) - if you then click on "book now" it throws you back to the page telling you the offer has expired but that you can still used your voucher up to 31st July.

Unless you knew the Promo code to use on the normal website was FGW5OFF (which I didn't) to get back into the place to enter your ^5 off code - you were stuffed !

I cant find the thread ...

Edit note:
While I am generally reluctant to take liberties with any posts made by members of the forum, I have now merged these two topics, as they were clearly intended to be just one.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
