Railway enthusiasts are set to miss out on seeing an 83-year-old steam engine roll into Bristol due to engineering works (link below.)

Former Southern Railway locomotive 30777 Sir Lamiel was due to pull a passenger train into Temple Meads station on November 1 as part of a trip organised by Kingfisher Railtours.

But the journey has been cancelled because Network Rail needs to carry out engineering works on the line between Weymouth and Bristol.

Kingfisher Railtours, based in Weymouth, said they regretted having to cancel the journey of the train, called the Bristol and Avon Explorer, but said the issue was out of its hands.

Network Rail had initially given clearance for the one-off run after ensuring it would not affect scheduled train services.

But a spokesman explained since the arrangements had been made, vital engineering work had arisen on the train's route between Weymouth and Bristol and that this could not be avoided.
