As with previous events, I hope that the event itself will be reasonably green, "practice what you preach"

To be avoided.
Petrol, diesel, or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) generators.
Running of vehicles engines when static.
Use of electric lights when daylight would suffice.
Outdoor heating, electric or LPG.
Plastic "disposable" cups, glasses, cutlery, plates etc.

To be used with care and economy.
LPG for cooking etc.
Charcoal or wood for cooking, and preferably source these fuels sustainably.
Mains electricity.
Disposable catering supplies made of wood, card, or paper.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Yes, we will.

4 avoided.  But our hall is windowless and we will be using electric lights but they are Low energy LEDs

3 economy not to be used at all. But still on mains electric. We are looking at merging the "Blue Pool" with the Assembly Hall and having a swimming pool sized array of solar panels on the roof.

Glad to hear about the eco ness of the event.
The use of electric lights in the daytime is regrettable, but effectively unavoidable for a venue without windows.
Large solar panel installations are commendable and should be encouraged.

I would prefer port in a proper glass, but a recyclable paper cup would do.

Lisa and I have been at a charity fundraiser there tonight and am glad to report china and glasses were in full use. The team catering was not quite so happy, pointing to a large washing up job.

Mains electricity is almost always greener than local generation.
An increasing proportion of UK (United Kingdom) grid power is from renewables, between 30% and 50%.
That proportion that is generated from fossil fuels makes use of large scale plant that is far more efficient than small portable generators.

Before use of a portable generator, always consider mains electricity, purchasing or hiring long cables if needed.

There is the interesting point that tea and coffee production is not exactly the greenest of drinks either.    The team will be using "real" reusable cups not plastic nor disposable / recyclable ones ... the milk I'm not sure; we are aware of all sorts of imperfections and example setting ...

The hottest day of the year was certainly an apt day to have this event. I suspect the combination of heat and humidity will have put many people off from going anywhere. I had other commitments that day, but in the end had to cancel them all, as I wasn't able to go far without completely wilting!

But congratulations on what appears to have been an excellent event.
