If one is required to buy a ticket on a train and then find that one in unable - or unwilling in case of a dispute - what is the name of the form that the train manager/guard/ticket inspect serves upon you once you give your name and address?

I have a young lady currently travelling during disruption that might need to quote chapter and verse. Thank you.

The form differs depending upon whether it is simply an unpaid fare or whether it is a penalty fare.

In the case where the guard is satisfied that no penalty should be applied, it will be an 'Unpaid Fare Notice' (UFN‡(resolve)) or if a penalty is to be applied, then it will be a 'Penalty Fare Notice' (PFN).

The amount to be paid will be stated on the notice and the customer should take it to a ticket office to be paid.
