I know that tickets can be purchased and seats reserved uo to 3 months before travel, but is there any way an ordinary passenger can find out when the rail companies (I am thinking speciifcally of FGW (First Great Western) and Cross country) release their quotas of advanced fares?.  I am trying to book a Bristol to Plymouth trip and the ourbound leg on 19 August has lots of cheap fares but teh return on 26 August does not.

Thanks

Bear in mind reservations for both Virgin West Coast and CrossCountry are dodgy at the moment due to the WCRM works.
