2022 Steam Gala Update

We have made the decision to postpone this year's Steam Gala to next year, due to a number of reasons including the lack of availability of visiting locomotives and unpredictable overhaul timeframes of resident locos 9681 and Uskmouth No.1. While this may be a disappointment, this Gala will be held early next year (likely May, to be confirmed) as well as our planned October date; so two Steam Galas in 2023! As well as our Annual Diesel Gala and more events to be announced, next year is sure to be an exciting one in the Forest. Make sure to keep an eye on our social media channels for more information!

The West Somerset Railway has decided with regret to cancel this year’s Autumn Steam Gala, which would have taken place from 29th September to 2nd October. There are two main reasons. It has proved particularly difficult this year to arrange visits from suitable steam locomotives from other heritage railways. Secondly, advanced special ticket sales are significantly down - in our view partly reflecting the present economic situation.
