Not too sure where this should go but as one of them is from the Cotswold line...

This train has been revised.

SX Outer D4:Gatwick Airport 1704 points have been clipped in normal position due to a chunk missing out of cross-over switch rail. Prevents Down Fast - Down Slow Lines movements. Broken rails are hardly rare - and it's very odd for a chunk of rail to be missing. If the points are clipped in normal position there is no danger anyway.

Broken rails are hardly rare - and it's very odd for a chunk of rail to be missing. If the points are clipped in normal position there is no danger anyway.

Agree with Swlines broken rails are probably too common and if points are clipped it's OK. However, after Potters Bar and Lambrigg it makes one wonder how Railtrack/Networkrail are maintaining points.

I remember being on the track (no high vis vest and there was a group of us) outside Manchester London Road with an S&T (Signalling and Telegraph) technian watching the EP points slam over. His boast was that if a cigarette paper got between the switch and stock rail the detection would fail. Probably an exaggeration but that was the pride thay had in their work.

Both Lambrigg and Potters Bar had very different faults to this particular situation though - both of those were related to bolts in the joints... this was due to a chunk of rail being missing (I still question how on earth a chunk of rail can go missing though so close to Gatwick).

Exactly loose/missing bolts then missing rail what are Network rail up to?

Interesting there was a derailment up at Aldwarke North of Rotherham where a contractor removed a bit of a point and the line was handed back to the signalman who wasn't told the bit of rail was missing or that the points were not clipped. So he set the road for a light engine which promptly fell off.

I suppose the only consolation here was that the points were clipped.
