Rail Travel Vouchers

I have a rail travel voucher I received for a heavily delayed journey last year. The voucher runs out next week, which leads me to ask two questions:

a) Does the 12 month validity period mean it is valid for a ticket bought within 12 months, or does it have to be for a journey made with that ticket within 12 months? In other words, could I use my voucher to buy a ticket now for a journey I would make after the 12 month period ended?

b) Regardless of the answer to a), if a voucher is used to buy a normal priced ticket being used at a later date, i.e. not an advance ticket, and you then find you are not able to make that journey, do the normal refund rules apply, or does the use of a voucher disqualify you from these?

As long as the ticket is purchased before the RTV expires you're fine. Travel date can be after validity of the RTV ends.

If you decide not to travel then the ticket can be refunded to the original payment method, less the admin fee of £10. That fee may be waived under the "Book with Confidence" scheme which runs until 30th September 2022.
