Never heard of this before. Hope that the tortoise was OK, was reported to be hurt.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Probably started walking because his train hadn't turned up. He had a rendez vous at Chelonia Centrale.

Reginald Perrin might have said,

"22 minutes late, escaped tortoise, Harling Road."

I thought JayMac might pick up on the Terry Pratchettiness of this... was the tortoise a member of the species Chelys galactica?

(Yes I know the Great A'Tuin was a turtle, but does anyone really care about the distinction?)

The Daily Star has spoken to the tortoise and asked "why?"

Quote
Randy tortoise who survived being hit by 90mph train was 'looking for love'

And The Mirror has confirmed the story with his owner

Quote
Horny tortoise hit by 90mph train was 'sex-starved and looking for love'

Owner Dillon Prest says his tortoise Clyde is desperate for company and it is no surprised that he made his escape after causing travel chaos on Monday when he was hit by a train
