I knew, vaguely, there was a bus stop next to Filton Abbeywood but didn't realise no buses served it. That's kind of useless.

I've recently noticed little stickers giving each station a rating, A, B or C for accessibility. This seems to be assessed by and for a national standard but I don't know any more about it.

I only know that I've seen these "grades" on some local stations recently. From memory A = all platforms step free, B = steps to one or more platforms, C = steps to all platforms. But I did notice the other day that Clifton Down is marked as B1, which is something to do with the length of the ramp to the Beach-bound platform. So it's obviously a bit more complicated than that.

I've renamed this thread, infoman, because FoSBR» (Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways - site)'s campaign isn't just about step-free access - it's about bringing bus stops closer to train stations too.

FoSBR were very pleased that Bristol 24/7 wrote an article about our event. We've also put up a post on our website which goes into a little more detail:

Carol Durrant's YouTube video has been reasonably popular too - though I don't think any of us are going to have a new career as YouTubers on the back of it! And you may need to pause it to read some of the captions.

Near me in Swindon there are two bus stops which haven't seen a service for at least ten years.  One was even removed and reaffixed when the lamp post it is on was replaced a couple of years back.

There was a third nearby which was only removed four years ago after a similar period out of use and that was only because the contra-flow bus lane it was on was removed and thus made it impossible to serve the stop.

Puts me in mind of the X39 and Bristol Temple Meads. But things might have improved, perhaps.

Also, off-topic, but cities that have a bus station but also a slew of buses that terminate in the surrounding streets. Say, Bristol Bus Station and the service to Chepstow.

Extra points for:

* No mention of the bus at the bus station.
* No provision of a map.
* Describing the location of the stop using place names with which people local to the city are familiar but which would not help visitors.

Double points:

* If the regular bus stop is then closed for an extended period of time by roadworks.

Treble points:

* if the bus stop's closure notice does not mention the location of the temporary stop used in its place.

(Thinking about Bristol Bus Station vs the T7 service to Chepstow. Issue sorted by going up the road to the stop outside the hospital, because if the T7 had not called there, there would have been rioting key workers and that doesn't go down well.)

There's similarly a bus stop on Harbour Drive next to the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff Bay with a very faded notice where the timetable should be about the withdrawal of services on some date in (IIRC (if I recall/remember/read correctly)) 2004.
