Wonder what is going for the 'drop' IET▸ (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan))..

50 tonnes of locomotive at 30 mph and a drop of 50 m into a water filled catch pit only 1 m deep! It better be some mighty strong plastic liner to withstand that impact if they hope to contain 'any oil released from the machinery'.

But it will beat the British record for the fewest number of trains in its lifetime - previously held by the branch to Llangurig (meant to be part of the mainline) of the Manchester and Milford Railway which also only had one revenue train, but it ran both ways!

Parts of a previous Mission Impossible were filmed where my daughter and son-in-law work. The secrecy was extraordinary, even for somewhere that isn't normally very talkative about what goes one behind the fence. Tom Cruise was glimpsed from a distance, but Henry Cavill dropped by to say hello. So I don't expect to see Tom Cruise queuing up for haddock and chips, but it's a feather in the cap of the town.

I hope they get the train scene right first time.
