I wondered if there's also an "any permitted" ticket so you can travel via the hallway, front door and side gate should there be congestion in the kitchen.

Is there also an 'Any Permitted' that allows out the front door, up the drive and through the side gate? Or would that be barred by the Routeing Guide as circuitous?

Don't forget that if you don't change along the way, the journey is allowed "any permitted" even if circuitous. So Living Room to Garden via Hallway, Front Door and Side Gate is allowed, provided that you don't replace slippers with shoes in Hallway.

True, but I’m using my annual season from living room to the pub (that one costs a fortune), with a single from front door to the garden via the side gate. That means I don’t need to stop at the front door to change tickets.

But do bear in mind that 3 in 7 freedom tickets do preclude your travel prior to the start time of off peak day returns, or 09:30 whichever is the earlier, but this rule does not apply on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays.

So if my return ticket will allow me all the way to the attic but I only go as far as the bathroom, would that be seen as "travelling short" (because I was caught short)?

If you've got a return to the attic you should be be able to break or end you're journey at the bathroom, provided its on a permitted route from the living room. If you've already passed the bathroom you can't double back though. Had you got an Advance to the attic then you may have got into trouble for ending your journey at the bathroom. Although guidance now is to allow stopping short on an Advance if there is no intent. A call of nature is an allowable excuse. Particularly if there were no facilities (colostomy, urostomy?!) on the journey.

Bah, on a fine day today there is a restriction in force along the garden route for bare footed passengers travelling via the holly tree. Wrong sort of leaves on the path. Ouch!
